If you attended the Franchise UPDATE's Leadership & Development Conference in Atlanta last week, then you heard some
pretty revealing statistics regarding franchise recruitment spending. In particular, the median recruitment budget for 2007 is down slightly from last year
as is the allocation of spending on Internet leads1.
The data we analyze for the FranchiseBenchmark report seems to support these findings via a slight increase in offline lead source volume as a
percentage of total leads. However, in comparing the first nine months of 2007 to the same period from 2006, the median number of
online lead sources has remained constant at seven (7). So while spending on Internet leads may be down as a percentage, the Internet continues
to be a primary element of most franchisors’ marketing strategies.
Competitive pressures in the franchise advertising sector are forcing the 3rd party portals to make innovative changes to improve site
performance and lead filtering options while maintaining adequate lead flow and quality. Since the data is beginning to reflect the impact of some of these
changes, this FranchiseBenchmark report includes the Top 20 portals for both the trailing 12 months and the trailing 3 months.
